New Camera!!!

I treated myself to a new camera today, since I've been wanting one for a while and it's Black Friday. I am so excited and have literally been taking pictures of the silliest things just because I'm excited haha! Today is a good day! I woke up at 4:45 to open for Black Friday at work, and then I spent the rest of my afternoon not doing homework (though I should probably start, since I'm working for the rest of the weekend... oops) Hope all is well and that you all had a great thanksgiving! Lots of love<3

Little Do You Know

So, it is about 1:30 in the morning right now. I really can't sleep, so I have chosen to blog instead. I wanted to share a song that I found early today with you guys. The first time I played it I was working on college apps and talking with a close friend of mine. When the music started though, everything I was doing stopped. The first few lines moved me like not many songs can. I hope you guys enjoy it as much I do!

We Day

Even though I should probably be catching up on sleep right now, I feel like putting in my last bit of energy to write this post for you guys! I have so much to say! Although, before I start I just wanted to say that I am truly sorry for some posts I have posted on here lately. Some of them have been a little much. I am trying to change that, so that this blog stays more positive and that it doesn't branch out to be too personal. So, I very much apologize.

Now, back on to what I REALLY wanted to talk to you guys about! Today was We Day California!! For all who don't know, We Day is an event held for kids around the world who make a difference in this world and their communities. Whether they are doing volunteer work, gathering canned food, OR even traveling around the world to help others in need, they are all making a difference! We Day is a very special event held in many cities, in many countries, and is where all these amazing children gather together to celebrate and create memories of a lifetime. At We Day there are special guests and speakers, like Orlando Bloom, Evanna Lynch, Hannah Alper, Spencer West, and Selena Gomez, who come to make this day extra special! And that is just to name a few who came to just TODAY'S event.

The thing is, is that there is a catch to this event. The tickets to We Day cannot be bought, but earned! Each attendee has earned his/her way in to We Day by getting involved in one local action in his/her community, and also one global action. So, all these kids are absolutely incredible, and they are also all here for the same reason: they are making a difference in this world!

I was very lucky to be able to attend We Day. Although, technically I was not "attending" We Day, but I was volunteering. Just by being there and volunteering, I was making a difference. Funny thing is that I didn't really realize I was until I was already in my car, leaving We Day. But it's true, I was. Being there and helping these outstanding kids have the times of their lives and helping make sure that the show went perfectly was me making a difference. I know. Weird, right? Me? Making a difference? Yea.... I never thought I'd actually ever say that. But really, I was, and that made the whole experience SO much more special!

Even though I was a volunteer, I really got to undergo the whole experience! I was very lucky to be able to work literally right next to the stage. My job was to be super loud, help out with the transitions in the show, and get the children in my area to have the best experience ever. And... I also got to dance my heart out!

To be honest, We Day was the best thing I have ever experienced. Just getting to be in the same room with over 16,000 other children who are making a difference in this world in SO inspiring. It is so amazing to look around the stadium, and see all 16,000 united as ONE! All of the lights on our wrists shined in sync as the whole stadium clapped to the beat of the music, and the amount of cheering a whole stadium could make at once is giving me the chills just thinking about it. The leaders and speakers that spoke were extremely inspiring, and touched me in ways no one has ever been able to before.

I was completely not expecting this to ever happen, but there was a time in the show when I was completely in tears. One of the speakers touched the subject of the pressure to be perfect and bullying, and that hit me hard in the chest. I never really talked about it, but there was a time when I was being bullied. A lot of it sticks with me to this day, and so when this speaker started talking about bullying, I was very much impacted emotionally. The thing is, is that I was not the only one either. When I was being bullied, I often felt alone and felt like I had no one I could talk to about it, but today I realized something: I was never really alone at all.

Now that I have talked my heart out about We Day {I could keep going, too,} I would like to show you the We Day video! This video is what inspired me in the first place to become apart of this incredible production. Enjoy!

We Day was definitely an experience I will never forget! It has impacted my life, and inspired me in so many ways to take a stand and make a difference. So, to end this post, I would just like to say one thing:

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

"Human"

I like to listen to music. Like all the time. Recently I have been more in to music that I can relate to, instead of just to have fun and dance to. Something about having that emotional connection with a song can be really empowering. I found this song the other day on tumblr, and I literally have not stopped listening to it. Something about songs like this I am just really attracted to. I will have to make a playlist one day for you all. It's kind of my "sad" song playlist, but I don't know, I like it.
Anyway, I'm obviously getting a little off topic. This song is called "Human" by Christina Perri. I'm sure you guys may have heard the song on the radio or something. I hadn't heard it, but my mom has, so it must be played on the radio at least a little bit. I hope you guys like it:)

I just really love the video. It's gorgeous, and Christina is obviously one of the most gorgeous women ever. When I first watched the video, it moved me in a way that no other video has done before. I truly love it. The song, the video, the singer... all amazing.

Gold

Hey guys! So, I just wanted to share a music video that I absolutely adore. This song and video have really helped me get through my hard days, and I just love it. It pretty much says that no matter who you are and what you've been through that you're worth it. That you're worth more than gold. I ran across this singer during winter break, and she automatically became one of my favorite singers. Her name is Britt Nicole, and I just really love the way she is and what she does. I can connect to so many of her songs, and it is truly comforting to have her words to listen to during tough times. I shared one of her songs last post, and that one really gets to me. I can really relate to it. It was the first song I heard of hers, and right away I knew I love it. I hope you love this song/video as much I do.
Love you guys! And remember, you're worth more than gold! xoxo

COSMOS {Fieldtrip: Sacramento Rivercats Baseball Game}

One of our Saturday fieldtrips was to Sacramento to watch a baseball team called the Rivercats play. I am not much of a baseball person, but getting to hang out with friends was pretty fun.
This was what the bus ride looked like on the way over there. People were telling jokes, playing games, and doing crafts. Of course I had to video tape a little bit of it.

We all entered the stadium, took a cluster photo, and then walked to the barbeque area for our dinner.
Here is COSMOS in the big tent with all the lines of food.
My plate of food. I served way to much and couldn't even finish, but it was good!
Janiqua with her plate waiting in line.
A plane flying above the stadium.
Unfortunately I didn't get photos of the in between times of the photo above and below. Us girls made friendship bracelets and talked boys the majority of the time. Erika and I at the beginning were bored, because we aren't really in to baseball. She almost was asleep when I freaked out because of the sight I saw on the field. There were walking heads!!!!!! We literally could not stop cracking up for 10 minutes. That moment really started a great relationship full of laughs and fun.
To end the fun night we got to watch a fireworks show that just happened to be right behind us. Unfortunately there were a bunch of trees so we only got the tops for the photos. It was overall a pretty fun night with a bunch of laughing about the walking heads, our interesting conversation, and that one random mob of asian people. Hahaha... oh good times.

Videos :)

I have been watching a bunch of YouTube videos lately. I watch mostly music videos, but every once in a while another will catch my eye. I thought I would share with you guys some of my top favorite
videos I liked to watch this week!
Just Give me a Reason- P!nk (feat. Nate Ruess) (cover) Megan Nicole and Jason Chen
I love this singer, Megan Nicole. A girl I know from church is really close friends with her, and I wanted to here her voice. She has a gorgeous voice, and she is so fun to listen to!
Cosmos UC Davis- Call Me Maybe
I found this video once I got accepted to UC Davis! I cannot wait, and I love watching this video, because some of the people in this video are my group leaders for this summer! Cant wait!
Rockelbel's Canon (4 Cellos)- Piano Guys
This is a very cool group of musicians! In this specific video it is their cellist playing, and he is really great. This song is a spinoff of Canon in D, a song you would here at many weddings.
Two Black Cadillacs- Carrie Underwood
This is one of my Mom's and my favorite song by Carrie Underwood. We could listen to her music for hours!
I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor Swift)- Rhett Price and Josh Knowles
This is one of my favorite Taylor Swift songs to listen to, and these two violinist just made it better!
Hermione Granger- "Like A Skyscraper"
Hermione Granger inspired me a lot when I read the Harry Potter series for the first time. This video is so sweet, and it is really enjoyable to watch.
We're NASA And We Know It
This video just makes me laugh... oh NASA.
Via Dolorosa- Dance by Autumn Miller
This is a very beautiful and inspiring dance. I love the song as well. It's truly amazing to watch this little star dance.

If any of you guys have any cool videos you'd like to share with me send me an email or put a link below! Love you!

OMG! Big News!!!

I got home yesterday very tired. {I didn't get much sleep, because I was studying.} I went to my parents bedroom and watched a few episodes of my favorite TV shows. Then, my brother got the idea to watch to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It was pretty good. It was a little sad, but I also thought it was a pretty fun movie, despite the moments when I had to force Liam to cover his eyes. Afterwards, I made Liam his own dinner, pizza, and I had a strong feeling I wasn't going to eat again. I cant eat pizza anymore, along with a lot of other foods. Even though i couldn't eat it, Liam was dancing around the house all excited. He probably could marry pizza.
My mom got home from work very happy, and all giddy. She called me over into the kitchen to show me something on the iPad.  It was the email I had been waiting for for months. I read it quietly, and by the time I had finished I was crying and grinning at the same time. I had been accepted to a UC Davis Astrophysics Program during the summer! I started crying even harder once I reread the second to last paragraph. I got a full scholarship!! I was shaking and crying so much. I just couldn't believe, and still cant, that I, Melissa Torres, made it into the program of my dreams. I feel so blessed. I feel like this a dream. You guys, I'm going! I don't even know how to express how I feel besides saying "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! OH EM GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
So many other good things have been happening in the last 2 days, but this definitely tops all of them! I have been praying for betters day comparison to the ones a few weeks back. Yesterday, I prayed before school, and asked to please help me. I was feeling stressed, tired, and worried, but I put everything into His hands. I let Him lead the way, and now look at the amazing things He had done for me. I'm so blessed.
This video above is the song that has been helping me get through all of my rough days. I cant even tell you how much I can relate to this song. I have been singing this song at 1 or 2 in the morning crying for God's help. He listens so much.
I hope you guys are all doing fabulous! I love you all!

Cheer

So, you guys that have been following me for a while probably remember when i was going to try out for cheer. Some things changed, but I still love cheer. I'm kind of a geek and I love to watch routines on youtube. My parents think I'm crazy, but oh well! Here is one of my favorites. Their power is really awesome, and their stunts and tumbling are even better!

"Cry" ~Alexx Calise

Hi guys! While I have been writing my little story, I have been thinking about songs that I could use if I ever made it into a movie. Haha. It's quite funny how I think of that. So here is the first song:
I heard this song on Dance Moms, and for some reason it made me very emotional. I really like it, and I think it fits well with the story I'm writing, and sometimes even my own life. It is mainly about how one hides their true emotions by smiling, but truly all she/he really feels is the desire to cry. I hope you like it!

Orchestra Through the Years

Hi everyone! These are videos I wanted to share! These are videos that Paola's dad took. They are of Paola and Me playing in orchestra. This just happened to work out since we sat next to each other almost every year. And if we weren't sitting next to each other, we were separated by one seat. The first three videos were taken when we were in 6th grade. Weren't we adorable! Paola is 2 seats down from where I sat. Which most of the time I am half on the screen on the left. I am that really small one next to the eight grader.
The next four videos, were taken in 7th grade. We had improved a lot, but sadly we had to suffer with a very horrid teacher; Ms. Patton. *Shivers* Sadly, I couldn't find our 8th grade videos.
So, we'll skip ahead. The last two videos were are freshman orchestra. It was one of my top favorite concerts. Everyone would pass us in awe, wherever we went. It made us feel special. I believe that I am so blessed to have such a wonderful orchestra. I have learned so many things, I have an amazing teacher, I have made many friends, and most of all I have completely fallen head over heels in love with music.
I hope you guys enjoyed the videos I'm glad I found them! I cherish them so much! Bye!

My Dream {Taylor Swift}

Hey everyone! i just wanted to tell you guys about my dream last night, but first I have to explain to you where it came from. So, yesterday I finished Cannery Row, the book I was reading. It was quite boring, but there is nothing really you can do about that. In one part of the book, these two guys were talking about a parade that happens every year. Apparently that parade is very boring. I think the parade connects to my dream some how, though I have no clue why. Anyways, here is my dream:

The story goes is that it is forth of july. I am in another city getting ready to watch the parade. I was kind of in a bummer mood since I knew the parade was going to be the same as always and boring. The parade started and I sat there on the side of the rode with a whole bunch of other people. After the mayor, council members, band, and all the parade people went by, people were starting to leave in the back. But for some reason I stayed. There was still a lot of people though. Then out of no where people, including myself, started screaming. Taylor Swift was in the parade! She was handing out guitar picks with her face on them! I was completely dieing! I was freaking out so bad! Then she gave me some picks and then threw me something else! I don't remember what it was exactly but I was so stoked! I could not believe what was happening! Then out of the blue, she looked right at me and waved! I was in such shock! It was amazing!

So anyways, that was my dream! I woke up and had a smile from ear to ear! I was so excited and happy even though it was only a dream! I loved it! And what is funny is that I actually have her guitar picks! I love them so much ! I got them for Christmas two years ago! So, ya. That dream put me in a really enlightened spirit! I loved all my excitement!
